Friulano DOC Collio

TYPE:White Wine

REGION:Friuli Venezia Giulia

ALC%: 13%

Friulano is the first name coming up in my mind if one asks me to name a local grape variety of Friuli. The variety was known as Tocai Friulano or Tocai in short until March, 2007 when the European Court of Justice prohibit the use of the name Tocai to avoid the confusion with the Hungarian wine named Tokaji, which does not have any Tocai Friulano in it all. Thus since 2007 Tocai Friulano is known as just Friulano. Friulano is lean and crunchy with delicate aromas of green apple, apricot, lemon, and gooseberry with a bit of almond finish. Look carefully Friulano may be similar to Chardonnay in many ways and a burgundy glass is recommended to fully appreciate it.
